Vacant Position – Head of Human Resources

The African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF) is a not-for-profit organization designed to facilitate and promote access and delivery of appropriate proprietary agricultural technologies for use by resource-poor smallholder farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa. Based in Nairobi, but working across the continent, AAFT fosters its mission through public/private partnerships to reach its target farmers. The Foundation is a one-stop-shop that provides expertise and know-how that facilitates the identification, access, development, delivery and utilization of proprietary agricultural technologies.

Position Summary:

The Head of Human Resources will have overall responsibility for designing and managing all HR systems at AATF. He/she will ensure effective and efficient provision of high quality HR services in support of AATF operations in all AATF locations/offices. The Head of HR will lead ad hoc HR projects as required and determined by management. He/she will provide management reports on headcount and also management responses to audit questions. This role will report to the Executive Director.

Summary of key responsibilities:

  • Managing the development of all policies and procedures related to Human Resources Management.
  • Ensuring that all employment practices, compensation, and human resources programs are within established standards of AATF and labor laws.   
  • Coordinating the performance management process.
  • Coordinating staff training and development programs.
  • Managing the process of staff appointments, renewal and termination of contracts.
  • Ensuring that AATF maintains a compensation and benefits package that is equitable and competitive to the market.
  • Ensuring maintenance of personnel records.
  • Developing and implementing the HR Strategy for AATF.
  • Ensuring that AATF maintains good employee and industrial relations.
  • Approving all staff claims.
  • Coordinating work related counseling and stress management services for staff.

The ideal candidate should possess both a Master’s Degree and a Higher Diploma in Human Resource Management. He/she should have minimum five-years’ of experience in human resource management preferably in a non-profit organization, three of which must be in senior managerial capacity. Additionally, he/she should hold membership in a recognized professional body; proficiency in Microsoft Office with an ability to learn new applications quickly; and a good working knowledge of national laws that govern human resources.
