Vacant Position – Monitoring and Evaluation Officer

The African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF) is a not-for-profit organization designed to facilitate and promote access and delivery of appropriate proprietary agricultural technologies for use by resource-poor smallholder farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa. Based in Nairobi, but working across the continent, AAFT fosters its mission through public/private partnerships to reach its target farmers. The Foundation is a one-stop-shop that provides expertise and know-how that facilitates the identification, access, development, delivery and utilization of proprietary agricultural technologies.

Position Summary:

The foundation seeks to recruit a seasoned Monitoring and Evaluation Officer to provide leadership in monitoring and evaluation with focus on the use of scientifically sound methods of impact evaluation. The M&E Officer will be responsible for the M&E framework for the organization’s projects, and will contribute to the design and implementation of related core M&E research and development activities of AATF. He/she will develop approaches and tools based on clear impact pathways, theories of change, outcomes and indicators of progress. He/she will work to ensure that M&E is carried out at an outcome level, and ensuring that projects maintain their strategic vision. The M&E Officer will build the capacity of Project Staff in M&E. He/she will assist Project Managers in preparing reports on project progress and will monitor the overall progress of AATF’s projects in achieving outcomes. The M&E Officer will report to the Executive Director.

Summary of key responsibilities:

  • Operationalizing the M&E framework designed for the Foundation.
  • Contributing to the development, design and planning of projects.
  • Contributing to outcome and evidence-based strategic decision making.
  • Assisting project managers in the development of systematic monitoring plans.
  • Conducting capacity assessments on the existing M&E systems.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the overall progress on achievement of results.
  • Building capacity of local communities, partners, and staff.
  • Coordinating lessons learnt workshops.
  • Participating in annual project reviews and planning workshops.
  • Developing and maintaining a system for archiving M&E guidelines.


The ideal candidate should possess a Master’s Degree in Economics, Business Administration or any other related field. Five years relevant experience in monitoring and evaluation. Proven ICT skills, in the development of MIS, use of statistical software and proficiency in Microsoft office. He/she should have proven leadership skills cutting across various cultures, gender, age, and race, with the ability to build alliances and collaborative relationships.
